The girl's name is Skye.
This peice is meant to be a symbolic representation of the two forces, fire and water, in conflict with eachother. Although it appears that Skye is bringing the fire, it is actually the other way around: . As an attempt to escape the fire, she in turn brings upon water.
Skye's family perished in a self-caused house fire but wishes for dynamic stability. Although recoginizing that "you do not step in the same river twice" (Eastern philosphy ref), the river is still a river. There are some things that do not change. When there is change, she tries to sustain stability.
